Exercise for the mind not just the body
Having started a career in the sports marketing industry, it soon became clear to me that I wanted to do something with more of a social impact. Getting into the fitness industry was an obvious choice for me - I want others to experience the enjoyment and rewards that exercise gives me. Whilst working as the lead trainer at a David Lloyd Studio in London, I encouraged all my clients to consider the mental benefits as well as the physical changes.
I am constantly surprised about how much happier and confident I am when I am active. This has been the catalyst for starting up MindFit PT. I want as many people as possible to experience how exercising and getting fitter can improve your mental health and quality of life. Reaching your goals will never be straight forward and easy but the challenges you overcome will give you incredible confidence which you can carry into other areas of your life. I have found that exercise has the amazing ability to help clear your mind and provide a platform to battle stress, anxiety, depression and other mental health conditions.
I first discovered the all round benefits of exercise when I got a place in the Berlin Marathon. Driven by the desire to make the most of the opportunity and not let myself down, it didn’t take long before I caught the 'running bug'. I ran my first marathon in 2012 and followed this up with two more in the next 6 months alongside numerous other races. My biggest challenge came in 2015 when I competed in the Atacama Crossing – an event that really tested my physcial and mental strength. Alongside running, I do a lot of road cycling and gym work to stay strong and keep those injuries at bay.
Away from exercise I am currently working towards a BSc in Psychology with future plans of a Masters in Sports Psychology. I also have a Labrador called Maya so I am often seen in and around Bath taking her for walks.
